Current affinity purification methods, though effective, are burdened by high costs, consequently restricting their applicability for isolating pure proteins needed for a multitude of applications. We introduced a new affinity purification system, designated CSAP (chitin- and streptavidin-mediated affinity purification), for the purpose of economically purifying Strep-tagII fusion proteins in order to address this issue. The CSAP system is architected to use commercially available chitin powder as a chromatography medium, thereby achieving a substantial enhancement in the cost-effectiveness of protein affinity purification.
